Broadcasters need to request permission from the CRTC to sell their station to another entity, to restructure their operations, or to change their name. They also need to inform ISED that they need to change their name on the broadcasting certificate.

Transfer of Ownership/Assets Process
The process for a transfer of ownership/assets for a broadcasting certificate is carried out via email.
- Send an email to the Department at the following address:
- Include the following information
- Attach a copy of the CRTC decision approving the change along with the complete name, address and contact information of the new broadcaster
- For stations exempt from a CRTC license, legal proof of a name change or change of ownership should be included with your request.
- Clearly indicate the call sign or call signs that are to be transferred
- Include the effective date of the transfer.
Once the changes have been completed by ISED, an email will be sent confirming the changes have been made.
