Request a change of call sign

Information on how to request a change of call sign.

Change of Call Sign Process

The request for a change in call sign for a broadcasting certificate can be carried out either via email or using the SMS. Before submitting a request, please verify that the requested call sign is included in the list of available call signs for broadcast stations.

Option 1 - Email:

  • Send an email to the Department at the following address:

  • Include the following information
    • Location and call sign of each station (before the change)
    • Location and call sign of each station (after the change)
    • Effective date of the change
      • A minimum of two weeks advance notice is required for the request to be processed.

Option 2 - Use the SMS:

  • Create a modification using the SMS and enter the following information:
    • Usage Information – Purpose of Application – Select “Change in Call letters”
    • Return To Summary and click Validate to highlight missing information
    • Edit the List of stations, then Edit the Main Station
      • Under General Details, indicate if it is a rebroadcasting station
      • Under Proposed Parameters:
        • change the call sign to the new requested call sign
        • Provide site Attestation – select N/A
        • Letter of Intent – select No
      • Under Transmission Line
        • Enter “1” values at each field and click Calculate to pass validation
      • Some of the fields above also need to be repeated for the auxiliary transmitters and IBOC. For a blank horizontal or vertical ERP field (when single polarisation is being used), enter 0. Older applications may be missing more fields such as site name/location that will be stored for future use.
      • Return to summary and verify if there are any other fields failing validation and submit once validation passes (Validate can be clicked again if needed).

Special case: if a call sign is being exchanged between two stations, a request must be made by email as per option 1, clearly indicating the approval of both stations to proceed.

Once the changes have been completed by ISED, an email will be sent confirming the changes have been made.

Broadcasters can access their broadcasting certificate online using View or Print your Certificate on our Broadcasting Services page.
