Regional Development Agencies: Special nationwide programs and initiatives

Program or Initiative Description
Black Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Fund (BEP) A key component of the Black Entrepreneurship Program (BEP), the Ecosystem Fund aims to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem for Black entrepreneurs and business owners across Canada. An additional $100 million is invested in the Ecosystem Fund under a renewed BEP, starting in fiscal year 2025-26.

Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII)

The Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII) represents $379.2 million in investments over three years to support the development and integration of businesses and regional ecosystems into national and international defence supply chains, and to enhance their industrial and innovation capacity.

Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) The Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) provides $1 billion over 3 years to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) impacted by tariffs, strengthening the competitiveness of Canadian businesses by helping them boost productivity, cut costs, build more resilient supply chains and reach new markets.
Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative (RHII) Through the Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative (RHII), the Government of Canada is investing $50 million over 2 years, starting in 2024-2025, to support local innovative housing solutions across the country.
Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative (RAII) As part of Budget 2024, the Government of Canada has allocated $200 million to help bring new AI technologies to market and help accelerate AI adoption in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, clean technology, manufacturing and other sectors of regional importance.
Northern Isolated Community Initiatives (NICI) Fund Delivered by three of Canada's regional development agencies (RDAs); the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), the Canadian Economic Development for Quebec regions (CED) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), NICI provides nearly $15 million over three years for community-led projects that benefit local and Indigenous food production systems, with an emphasis on innovative and practical solutions to increase food security across the North.
Tourism Growth Program (TGP) With $108 million in federal funding, the Tourism Growth Program (TGP) is supporting small and medium-sized businesses, not-for-profit organizations and communities, in developing local, community-level tourism products and experiences to help more domestic and international visitors discover all that Canada has to offer.
