Ocean Aware is a game-changing technology project that assesses fish health and movement by monitoring marine life around fixed subsea structures such as foundations, supports and protections for wind farms and drilling platforms. Led by Innovasea, this first-of-its-kind collaboration between fishery, aquaculture, energy, ocean technology firms and post-secondary institutions have successfully developed its algorithm. After testing its solution to support smarter fishing, Canada’s ocean economy will be equipped with a reliable method to determine species distribution and movement between stock boundaries, produce more accurate fishing models, and ultimately help Canadians fish more productively and sustainably.
