Normative Test Standards and Acceptable Alternate Procedures

This page contains a list of EMC related normative test standards and alternate procedures accepted by ISED.

For RF exposure related documents, see Acceptable knowledge database, other supplementary procedures and notices.

Normative Reference Standards

An RSS or ICES standard can incorporate by reference external standards, such as ANSI/USEMCSC C63. The specific dated edition of the external standard referenced within an RSS or ICES shall be used for compliance testing. If the external standard referenced within an RSS or ICES is undated, the specific edition listed below shall be used for compliance testing.

External standards incorporated by reference within an RSS or ICES can themselves contain undated normative references to other external standards. When the other external reference is listed below, the edition listed here shall be applied. When the external standard adopted by reference contains an undated reference to another external standard that is not listed below, a transition period of one year from the date of publication of the new edition shall apply.

Where a transition period is specified here, product compliance and application for certification using either the existing or the new issue of that standard are accepted. After the transition period expires, applications for certification are only accepted using the new issue of that standard and equipment manufactured, imported, distributed, leased, offered for sale, or sold in Canada shall comply with the new issue of the applicable standard.

The parentheses below provide a short title of each adopted standard, based on the actual title of that document. However, depending on the specific ICES or RSS standard, some of these standards are adopted by ISED only for specific portions (such as site validation within 1-18GHz in CISPR 16-1-4) or for a different use (such as ANSI C63.26 referenced in some RSS-200 series, for unlicensed radio apparatus). For details, see the specific RSS or ICES standard.

The test report shall specify which edition has been used.
